How to Sheet Mask

I got out of the habit of using face masks over Winter but now that Spring is in the air and the current situation means that we all have a bit more free time on our hands, I've rebooted the mask obsession! Here are my top tips on using sheet masks... I’ll be the first to admit that when sheet masks first hit the beauty scene I was intimidated yet intrigued. I'd always been familiar with the skincare masks that came in tubs and tubes which you slather all over your face. Afterwards, these often involved a clean up operation of the inevitable mess left behind all over your hands and bathroom, then the annoying process of having to pick it out of your hair after washing it off…totally worth it! The idea of a single-use mask that was easy to apply and remove just didn’t compute. I decided to embrace the trend and let me tell you, I'm now hooked. Who knew beauty masks could be so quick and easy! What is a sheet mask? It’s quite literally a mask in sheet form, wit

Finding Nature in the City's Concrete Jungle

As creatures of the Earth, we all have a profound connection to Mother Nature. Some of us have a stronger bond than others, constantly feeling drawn to all aspects of the natural world. But what if you live in the dense concrete jungle of a city?

Living in an urban environment can be difficult for a nature lover. The sounds, lights, constant interaction, pollution and lack of greenery can leave us longing for an escape to nature. Something just doesn't feel right and the hectic city becomes overwhelming.

Urban Nature

I'm lucky to live in Sheffield, as it's a city deeply rooted in the natural realm of the Peak District. The urban environment seems to respect its natural borders by allowing space for greenery with numerous large parks and an abundance of urban trees. The parks near me are natural landscapes rather than ornamental ones and they provide for wildlife with grasslands, meadows and forested areas. I'm always surprised at how green Sheffield looks from a distance. However, I often find myself longing for a more natural environment especially if I haven't been able to venture out of the city centre for a while. Even so, it is still possible to connect with nature in the most unnatural and urban environments

Here's how I seek nature in the city...

1. Surround yourself with the elements: Earth, Air, Fire and Water. Decorate your interiors with earthy tones and display some crystals. Source natural wooden furniture and collect some pine cones. Light incense and candles concentrating on natural aromas.

2. Fill your home with plants to the point where it looks like a greenhouse. Grow your own herbs on the window sill and filly every empty space with a house plant.

3. Spend some time in the flower shops or winter gardens of your city. Visit the park or take a stroll along the river. It's the season for blackberry picking so seek out those delicious berries for a comforting crumble.

4. Walk on the sunny side of the street and soak up all of the sun's rays. Walk in the rain and let the raindrops curl the ends of your hair.

5. Be mindful of your surroundings. Always seek out nature. Scan every branch of the trees and every blade of grass. Listen to the sounds they make in the wind.

Never forget the Earth beneath your feet and allow yourself to be inspired by nature. When the grind of daily life becomes too much to handle, know that there’s always a force of nature within you and whatever you do, wherever you go, always remember to look up.
