Do you find that the beautiful scent of your signature perfume never lasts the day and seems to vanish into thin air? Maybe, like me, you've been applying your perfume all wrong...
I love perfume and its ability to become a signature scent, acting as an extension of your personality and adding to the ambiance of who you are. People come to remember you by your fragrance, as scent is the most powerful memory trigger. Just a hint of an aroma can bring back memories of a specific place, event, person or period in time.
However, I can never seem to make my perfume last the day. The best part of my morning routine is when I'm surrounded in a beautiful aromatic cloud as I spritz my perfume over me before leaving the house. As the day goes on the scent diminishes and soon enough it seems to vanish altogether. So, I've been on a mission to solve my problem and ended up finding out that I've been applying perfume all wrong!
Here are the 4 tips I've learnt to make your delightful signature scent last from morning to night...
1. Moisturise First
If you have naturally oily skin then you're in luck, because scents don't adhere as well to dry complexions. If you do have dry skin find out if your signature scent comes in a body lotion and apply this first. If not, apply any unscented moisturiser or Vaseline onto wet skin wherever you plan to apply your perfume.
2. Apply to Pulse Points
Heat activates perfume and the pulse points on your body (where your heartbeat can be felt) are the best spots to apply a scent due to the warmth of the blood close to the skin. Pulse point are located: behind the ear, at the base of the throat, inside the elbow, on the wrist and behind the knee.
3. Don't Rub Perfume into the Skin
After applying a fragrance, I often thought it was best to rub the perfume in to warm the skin and spread the scent. However, this is completely wrong. Rubbing the perfume breaks down it's scent molecules causing it to vanish into thin air.
4. Store Perfume Correctly
Heat, light and humidity can all cause the compounds in a perfume to break down, making it less fragrant. To keep your signature scent at its best, store the bottle in a cool place away from direct sunlight. If you are storing your fragrance collection in the bathroom find a new place to keep them, as the heat and humidity can damage them greatly.
